Participation of I.S.A.E.K. of Volos Municipality in the European Jewelry Schools Meeting of PLE in Thessaloniki.

I .S.A.E.K. of Volos Municipality successfully participated in the 31st European Conference of Jewelry Schools of PLE in Thessaloniki, held from May 5 - 8, 2026. This year’s conference was organized by the MOCUME School of Arts and brought together 10 jewelry and schools from across Europe.

The delegation of  I .S.A.E.K. of Volos Municipality presented the School’s activities in the field of applied arts, particularly in jewelry design and craftsmanship, emphasizing its new development strategy focused on high-aesthetic specialties and skills that meet the contemporary demands of the market. The students participated with their own jewelry creations in competitions for jewelry design, jewelry making, and literary writing. They also attended workshops on jewelry techniques and visited museums and cultural sites.

The European travelling Jewelry Exhibition of PLE (Parlement Lycéen Européen – organization of European jewellery schools) will be hosted in Volos starting from June 29, 2026. The Municipal I.S.A.E.K. of Volos was represented by Ms. Leta Argyrakou, Head of the Jewelry Department, and the school’s students Angeliki Angelaki and Giannis Diakogiannis.

A valuable educational experience for everyone was the visit to the modern Archaeological Museum of Pella, the archaeological site of Vergina, and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki — some of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, with special emphasis on the culture of ancient Macedonia. The jewelry of Pella stands out for its refined goldsmithing craftsmanship, revealing the wealth and artistic development of the Hellenistic era. Golden wreaths, earrings, and intricate decorative objects testify to the high social status of their owners. The jewelry of Vergina represents masterpieces of ancient Macedonian art, closely associated with the royal court of Philip II. The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki presents unique exhibits from Macedonia and Northern Greece, spanning from the Archaic to the Roman period, showcasing the evolution of metalworking and the aesthetics of ancient societies.

The visits to professional workplaces were also of great interest to both students and educators. The visit was to “Gem Lab,” the gemological laboratory and precious stone cutting workshop of gemologist Anastasios Spyridis, where students were introduced to the techniques of gemstone cutting that enhance the beauty of precious stones. The second visit took place at the impressive exhibition space and production workshop of “Bord de l’Eau,” a third-generation goldsmithing workshop offering a fresh perspective in the field of contemporary creative jewelry and object design.

The meeting, dedicated to strengthening the connection between education and the labor market, served as a meeting point for educational institutions, professionals from the fields of art and fashion, and cultural development organizations from across Europe. Present at the awards ceremony for the competitions were the President of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Crafts, Mr. Marios Papadopoulos, and the President of the Thessaloniki Association of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths (SCHATH), Ms. Eleni Tezapsidou.

The Deputy Mayor of Education Ms. Marasidi emphasized that participation in European Organizations opens new horizons for the I .S.A.E.K. of Volos Municipality, strengthening the school’s international presence in the field of applied arts and promoting the connection of local education with the global scene of innovation, creativity, and the labor market for graduates. It is no coincidence that many graduates have established their own businesses, while others are employed by major European jewelry companies both within and outside Greece.
